Planting Garlic For Matariki

Matariki
For Matariki we planted garlic in our school garden. Our gardening teacher helped us. Two people went at a time to do digging and raking and fertilising. We broke the garlic bulb into cloves and got a few each. I said my hands smelt like my Dad's garlic pasta.

How To Plant Garlic:
  • We buried it 5 cm deep under the dirt. You had to put the pointy end of the garlic clove facing upwards and the flat bit where the roots come out at the bottom.
  • Garlic should be planted April to August.
  • Well work the soil with rakes and shovels, until its nice and loose. Plant in a sunny position in the garden to produce more bulbs next year. Leave the papery skin on each clove.
  • Plant the garlic 5-6 cm apart.
  • Make trenches to plant them in.

Spider Webs

The Spider Webs

The webs are shining with dew.
Crusted with ice.
Admire the spider kingdom!
Explore the jungle of dewy vines.
The spiders assemble the extraordinary.
Webs are white as a happy little bunny.
Dewy and hanging vines hang down from the saturated trees.
Lacy strings appear as the dew comes upon them.

My Rabbit Poem

Rabbits

The rabbit, with a soft white fluffy round little tail.
Laying upon the warm snugly hay.
Crunching carrots,cabbage and apple too.
Alert little ears listening for danger.
Loving being free and stealing all the
vegies from the garden.

The Beaut Ukes Performance

On the 14th of June the Beaut Ukes performed on the stage at the War Memorial Theatre.
My group were waiting to come out on the when suddenly Scott called "Here come the Beaut Ukes, all the way from Matawai!  but they managed it."

On to the stage we walked.

The first song we did was 'Do Your Ears Hang Low' next was 'I'm Singing In The Rain' next was 'On My Ukulele' and last was 'Michael Finnegan'. We did 'Do Your Ears Hang Low' and 'Michael Finnegan without the music sheets. This is 'Do Your Ears Hang Low:

C
Do your ears hang low ?
Do they wobble to and fro?
Can you tie them in a ribbon?
             G7
Can you tie them in a bow?
                 C
Can you throw them over your shoulder like a continental solider ?
                        G7        C
Do your ears hang Low?

2019 About Me

Gidday! My name is Iris.  I live on a farm in Matawai. I live in a family of four.
I love helping my family  doing dirty farm things. I love climbing tall trees.
On my farm I have chickens, goats, dogs, pet rabbits and cows. I find rusty things to put in my tree.

I play soccer every Saturday. I enjoy mathematics. It challenges me.
The person that inspires me is Rosie White because she is a famous soccer player.
I sort of want horses but my family can't afford them.
I love eeling, hunting, fishing, exploring and going on adventures.
I live next to the Motu river that I love swimming in.
I have two pet rabbits and their  names are Bugsy and Popsi.
My pet dog is called Fox because he is a fox terrier dog.
I grew up in Karratha in Australia. My favourite thing to do is climb my tree.
When I am older I want to be a farmer.
